Pole dance, fistball, mamanet and wheel gymnastics are the most unknown disciplines
that will be part of these popular world games in Tortosa from 2nd to 7th of July and where o0ver than 3000 athletes will take part of it.

Beyond the classical sports that can be seen in these popular games like football,
swimming, athletics… There are others that are more unknown or at least there isn’t so
much tradition of practice it in our country.

This is the case of pole dance, fistball, mamanet and wheel gymnastics.

Pole dance that will be in Deltebre, is a sport that is practiced with a vertical metal bar and where the athlete must perform a body movements’ choreography with the rhythm of the music.

On the other hand, the fistball that will take place in Roquetes is also known as the small volleyball brother who has its origins in Ancient Rome. You need a larger field than the normal one and you need 5 players per team. The point ends when the ball is thrown out of the field or when there are more than two bounces in the playing field. The ball can also make a bounce on the ground between the different touches of the players.

On the other hand, we find mamanet that will be seen in La Ràpita and is also a version of volleyball and has become an example sport in Israel. Created by mothers while they were waiting to pick up their children in schools. It’s much simple than the normal one and has less rules. It is easier to play because you need the same field and the same material as indoor volleyball.

Finally, wheel gymnastics is one of the most spectacular sports that can be seen in these popular games and will be held in the city of L’Ampolla. It consists in making different movements within a giant metal wheel and where the technical and artistic part of each execution is scored.

Organized by the Union of Sports Councils of Catalonia (UCEC), the World Sports Games of this year will have a new competition called “Fun Handball” or also known as the handball to have fun.

In this sixth edition of the CSIT WSG 2019, which will take place in Tortosa, Catalonia and cities around, you will see there a total of 25 competitions including this new sport event. A new handball modality created specially to encourage the team play in a faster and funnier way.

It will be a different handball but at the same time will maintain the essence of sport and it will incorporate new rules: 5 players per team, smaller handball fields, … Everything with a unique goal for the participants, to enjoy better the championship, make it more dynamic and trying to bring the best fair play possible.

The “Fun Handball” will take place at Pavelló Recinte Firal, Tortosa on the 5th and 6th of July and right now it has around 300 registered athletes who will be the first to enjoy a completely new modality within these world popular games.

Less than a month for the beginning of the World Sports Games Tortosa 2019 and we already know all the towns that will host the different sports that are included in these worldwide known games, which are going to take part around Terres de l’Ebre.

Tortosa, Baix Ebre’s capital and the host city, will handle the majority of sports like football, basketball, swimming, chess, wrestling, judo, tennis, miniature golf, boules and ping pong. Roquetes, the town next to Tortosa will host volleyball and fistball. The other towns from the same region will host Wheel Gymnastics and World Dance Sport in l’Ampolla, figure skating in l’Aldea, Karate and Pole Dance in Deltebre.

El Montsià will also take part in this competition and the chosen towns are Amposta, which will host athletics, and the coast town la Ràpita that will handle mamanet, mini football, beach volley and beach wrestling.

Furthermore, Salou will also take part in this event hosting American Football.

Around three thousand athletes approximately will be divided in a total of twenty-four sports that will take part and will be seen in Ebre’s regions in the sixth CSIT World Sports Games Tortosa 2019.

Left than one month to start the WSG and we can confirm that at least we will host 42 countries in the competition.

The number can still grow more during the next days with the incorporations of some more delegations. Between all the athletes we will have confirmed all these countries: United States, Angola, Ghana, Great Britain, Brazil, Denmark, Estonia or Finland. The delegations that will bring more athletes are Italy with 500 participants, 290 from Mexico and 230 from Austria.

Also, the Catalonian Delegation will have lots of athletes and at the same time more than 400 volunteers that will help during all the competition’s week.

The World Sports Games Tortosa 2019 will take place during the first week of July, from 2nd to 7th in Tortosa and the other official venues around Terres de l’Ebre.

The opening ceremony on the 2nd of July will be the beginning of the WSG and it will have all the country flags’ parading in the Josep Otero football field from Tortosa showing the traditions that have these world popular games organized by CSIT, International Confederation of workers, UCEC and Ajuntament de Tortosa.
